How To Start Your Day With Positive Thoughts And Keep Up With It

Dear reader, lately I’ve been thinking a lot about my life, in general, and I came to a conclusion: I am not a morning person. Everyone knows that. I even show up in the office after 9.30-10.00AM and to be honest if it would be up to me we could just skip morning completely… After all, I can easily have a brunch instead of breakfast so this for sure would not work as a reason to keep “morning” a part of my vocabulary...Or life... Thing is, I do like that feeling in the morning when you wake up and there’s light outside, birds are singing, a new day is about to start, etc...If I think about it I actually hate waking up in the dark, makes me feel depressed...So I have to admit that I had to accept morning over dark and work on things that make my morning happier as my day starts. I spent some time reading the news or scrolling through Instagram while eating my breakfast and listening to some happy songs. Now, this is mostly my morning routine! I still can’t figure out a way to not get angry with my alarm, no matter what sound I choose. At one point it just gets annoying and I start hating it so much that I need to change it.

I found this iPhone sound, it’s almost like little birds singing while the sun is going slowly up through the grass full of dew. Can you see the picture that arises in my mind? I use it as an alarm now, but I am so scared I’m going to end up hating mornings even more. Let’s see how long it will last. I don’t feel annoyed at all when I wake up...For now.

As I was saying, dear reader, I have found out a series of things which make my mornings better and I really hope that with my new alarm these new habits will help me achieve a new lifestyle. Check out some more:

1. CHAI TEA. Probably most of you read the blog or my Insta Stories on your way to the office while commuting. But I noticed lately a lot of people have coffee in their hands together with the phone. Well, I gave up caffeine, you can read HERE why, but I discovered something better, chai tea latte. A tea with a lot of milk which gives my morning such a great cinnamon flavor. I have that with my breakfast all the time. I prepare it, I add some blueberries and strawberries in my Greek yogurt, and I am all ready to start my day.

2. THE MORNING SHOWER... A cold shower goes so well with some energetic music (usually I just open Spotify, search Zumba playlist and that’s it! It’s just my perfect way to start a busy day.

3. THE LIST! I start my days now by making a list of things I want to accomplish. Try to think about your free time and some things you had them pending for some time and just slip them in. Solving them will bring you satisfaction, but so will the fact that you know you’re ready to solve them. It can be about calling your grandma, printing the pictures from your latest holiday, making an appointment for the annual check-up, visiting a friend you haven’t seen for some time, planning a new trip, and so on. All of these for sure are not things you get to plan on how to solve during the day because you are too busy, so mornings should be a good time to reflect and relax. Even better: do the little stuff you don’t get to do during the rest of the day; those that won’t take you a lot of time. I admit it’s definitely not my favorite part of the day, but based on the quote: “Morning is wonderful. Its only drawback is that it comes at such an inconvenient time of day.” (― Glen Cook, Sweet Silver Blues) I think we can find some great reasons for which it’s worth smiling in the morning. What do you think, dear reader? I woke up this morning very happy, with a kiss and a hug, thinking about my new apartment and the fact that I have to start packing for this new adventure. All my thoughts went to the fact that I am finally living in Amsterdam for more than a year now and I have more time to explore the city. I have so many reasons to be happy that I don’t even care nor do I complain that it’s raining this morning!

What does it is that makes you happy in the morning and what is your morning routine, dear reader?
