I will start by telling you that I'm not a fanatic when it comes to celebrating Valentine's Day, or in general this super cheesy stuff, even if I'm a romantic. I like to enjoy any occasion that can remind us of something good, beautiful, love, or celebrate important people in our lives. How often do we happen to take things for granted, right?
So in this context, I thought about which tourist destinations I would choose or recommend for this time of year, especially since we also find very cheap flights.
It doesn't matter if we want to plan a trip abroad or somewhere through the dozens of nice places right in our country, a short City Break never hurts.
So Make it Happen! After all - Traveling is food for the Mind, Body & Soul.
Bruges, BE
This small town, seemingly torn from stories, clearly seems to be a very suitable place for a short getaway. Bruges is certainly one of Belgium's most picturesque destinations, one of the best-preserved medieval cities in Europe. It is not very expensive compared to other places. It has a special charm: from the imposing architecture and the way the city is designed, to all kinds of activities in the artistic and cultural, gastronomic or shopping and entertainment area. have limited access to the city makes it even more special - a fairytale city, with colorful houses that look like gingerbread, narrow streets, and canals with swans and ducks and…. lots of chocolate and pralines. Everywhere! A cozy, romantic, and very instagramable town that will definitely not disappoint you.
Personally, I think that 2 days is more than enough. You have time to check almost everything.
Venice, IT
Another romantic destination and suitable for this period would be Venice - the floating city. During this time of the year, usually, you would be able to attend the Venice Carnival. The tradition of this carnival, where extravagant masks and outfits play an essential role, has its roots somewhere in the late Middle Ages, in the 1200s. It has always been one of my desires to get there at Carnival. Venice seems such a romantic town and unique. I could say twisted because this port city is like a puzzle consisting of 6 sectors and over 100 small lagoon islands. The city's addresses only give you the building number and the name of the neighborhood and do not mention anything related to the street name. A useful tip would be to find out exactly how to get to the next location before leaving the accommodation. Then there would be some other issues related to congestion, humidity, and urban problems encountered since Venice is sinking slowly (about 0.5 cm per year). The city is beautiful, and you really have everything you want - from fascinating architecture to culture, good food and local entertainment.
Amsterdam, NL
Personally, I would always choose to spend any day in this beautiful city I call home. Amsterdam is so eclectic and diverse when it comes to anything. It has a lifestyle; it has architecture, art, culture, and a very tender and interesting gastronomic area. It is absolutely for all tastes. Canals, parks, markets, museums, cathedrals, not to mention the Red Light District and the whole pleiad of Coffeeshops. And many bicycles! Yay!
Every time I went out in the city, I discovered it differently; each time, I found another face of it or another pretty amazing location for brunch, a coffee.
Budapest, HU
It was another beautiful city that totally conquered me even if I didn't have such high expectations when I visited it. I can say, however, that I liked it a lot! I discovered a city with a very urban and youthful vibe, with super cool food or coffee, with a lot of nice places, and interesting to visit and with beautiful hotels and Airbnbs. Not to mention that it is a city for all "pockets" it really is not expensive.
Most importantly, don’t forget to try the baths, it’s a must while in Budapest.
Vienna, AU
A kiss, a ball, and thousands of butterflies: Valentine's Day in Vienna is something amazing.
A city with an old tradition and cultural heritage, Vienna offers a sophisticated experience to lovers of art and romantic getaways. A walk through the medieval streets, the taste of a coffee in one of the famous Viennese cafes, an intimate and elegant hotel are some of the attributes that ensure a special vacation in the company of your loved one.
Prague, CZ
For fairytale charm, the city of 100 towers, Prague, will impress you with its beauties, with the romance radiated by the medieval center and the great boulevards, but also with the many churches and bridges of the era.
Paris, FR
The list would not be complete if I wouldn't have added Paris. "Paris is always a good idea," said the character played by Audrey Hepburn in the film "Sabrina." But maybe it would be a better idea to visit Paris, the "city of love" in February, the period dedicated to love, for Valentine's Day.
That being said, I would like to see in the comment section what other cities or destinations that you think should be visited at the beginning of the year, no matter if you are celebrating Valentine’s Day, or you want to have a city break and have that travel feeling once again.
