When Can You Quit Your 9 To 5 Job To Become A Freelancer

Now it is by no means the right time to become a freelancer if you ask me. However, it never will be, it's hard to leave the comfort of a warm job for the stress and challenges that come with working on your own, and I'm very cautious, so ignore me, but don't ignore the recommendations below, if it makes you think.

You have money set aside for at least 6 months of life

This is a good recommendation anytime, but even more critical when you are not sure how much money you will receive next month. Some money set aside helps you sleep well at night and is a guarantee that you will not accept any problematic customers or you will sell yourself too cheap, just to have something to pay the rent (read hungry).

The extra income, made in addition to the job, represents at least 50% of the salary

Obviously, you will have to work much harder at the beginning, but if you really want to go safe with freelancing you will have to work hard for a while, to work another 4 hours a day in addition to the usual job, to figure out what you eat freelancing and if you can handle it. The moment you work a few extra hours and end up earning half of your money from work, it is clear that you are on the right track, and you will make more than your salary if you dedicate yourself completely. Besides, the freelancing done when you are still working shows you if you will succeed solo.

You have a few long-term clients in freelancing

The more, the better, the more relaxing it is to know that you don't start from scratch on your own. Some customers will leave, others will come, but things are already moving.

You are always recommended by the clients you have worked with

If you ask me, word of mouth is the most effective method of promotion when you are a freelancer. You do your job so well that customers will recommend you without you asking them to. Large companies need marketing campaigns to always support the growth of turnover. Still, as a freelancer, you need a few stable clients and 2-3 new clients per month, depending on what services you offer, and the best clients come from recommendations.
