Netflix Movies Ideal For Travel Lovers

Netflix Movies Ideal For Travel Lovers

We travel to see the world and learn about other cultures, about people, customs. About events, situations, about life. But we can also use the time we spend watching tabs or series, to travel from the armchair, sofa or bed to other worlds, to other universes. Let's discover new cultures, let's see beautiful landscapes. There are some series and movies that made me happy, amused, all in dream frames, or made me look for information, to find out more about certain countries, about people, about historical events. About certain principles and theories, things that make you think. And that fascinated me.

The Physician (Avicenna's Apprentice)

An absolutely fantastic movie! The action takes place in the 11th century when a young European disguised himself as a Jew to study medicine at a University in Persia. This University does not accept Christians; as a result, the young Robert Cole also makes circumcision, to be able to follow his dream, that of studying. The film is based on the novel of the same name written by Noah Gordon.

It is also a beautiful love story, the script, the scenery, everything is captivating—an adorable movie.

The boy Who harnessed the Wind

A 13-year-old boy from Malawi, passionate about engineering, found an unconventional way to save the village from starvation. The film is based on the real story of William Kamkwamba, who built a wind turbine, which he made from what he had in the house and in the village: blue rubber trees, dismantled bicycles, etc. In 2013, Time magazine named William Kamkwamba (born 1987) one of the "30 young people under 30 who change the world." He continues to innovate and improve the lives of his compatriots—exceptional film.

Tsotsi

A young South African living in a slum in Johannesburg steals a car where he later finds a baby. An Oscar film (best film in a foreign language, winner). The music in the movie is exceptional.

We see an abused young man, turned criminal that he finds himself, he finds humanity and love once he finds the baby. Sad, after his mother shoots him ( spoiler: he survives). But once he has to take care of the little one, he finds his humanity, his kindness and decides to do what is right. The film is exceptionally moving.

Movies: Nigerian Wedding 1 and 2

Two frothy, light but colorful comedies. I liked both of them, I laughed heartily, what was left for me? The colors, rituals and customs, superstitions, traditional costumes of the participants, the fabulous scenery of Dubai.

Movie: Holiday in the Wild

A Netflix movie that was released for Christmas. It is pleasant, optimistic, full of clichés and stereotypes, but beautiful. Mainly since it was filmed almost exclusively in an elephant orphanage. We find Kristin Davis, the beloved Miranda from "All About Sex," who plays the role of a wealthy divorcee located in Africa. In all, she also finds love. And the meaning, everything. It's an easy series, annoying at times for some. I liked it, I took what I wanted from it. And yes, many elephants are orphaned and need care, love, they are such social beings!

The Red Sea Diving Resort

This film is based on a real story, namely two operations carried out between 1984-1985: "Operation Moses" and "Operation Joshua." The groom evacuated more than 15,000 Ethiopian Jews, using an abandoned Arous Village resort on the Red Sea coast in Sudan as a base.

There are also voices criticizing the film. The reason is that the story focuses on "white savior" and does not present enough Ethiopian Jews' effort and courage. Thousands of people died on the way, and the reason they left Ethiopia was not that they had no place to stay, no houses, no land, no food, no security.

It is known that the current regime in Ethiopia has changed many things, including the release of all political prisoners, and the country is a positive example in many ways. When I read about the fact that Ethiopia is now one of the countries where journalists have not been arrested in recent years, I felt that yes, maybe, change can come. I only wish them well! I hope you visit and learn more about this fascinating country, to which I have been looking for some time.

Beast of no nation

A war drama, a movie you must see. It's the story of a boy turned soldier. It was filmed in Ghana, and Idris Elba plays an important role. So is Abraham Attah, the main hero, the child soldier. Many have said that if it weren't for a Netflix movie, it would have been an Oscar-nominated movie. Especially the young Abraham Attah would have deserved it, but also Idris Elba. It was something about a rule about how it was released, not in theaters. I think we've seen a significant evolution in television and the rules should be changed at the Oscars.

The story is fictional but so common in countries ravaged by civil wars that it is absolutely necessary to see this reality because it exists. Many have blamed the film for not being so "nice" and idealistic, but neither is the reality.

Lost city of z - Z, the lost city

In 1925, the British explorer Major Percy Fawcett embarked on an expedition to find a lost civilization in the Amazon jungle. He did not return from this trip, the film is based on Fawcett's bibliography, narrated by David Grann. A beautiful movie and full of mystery.

Classic movies, which I hope you didn't miss: 7 years in Tibet, Out of Africa, 12 years of slavery - Oscar, the best film of 2014 (real story), Bloody Diamonds.

I will update the article as I remember many other titles that I loved. To be more moderate with spoilers at recommendations? What do you think?
