Christmas Activities In Nijmegen

Christmas Activities In Nijmegen

I just realized this year we need Christmas more than ever. With all that happened this year, from the worldwide spread pandemic to Black Live Matters, to the explosion in Beirut and all the natural disasters - we need Christmas. We need that time of the year where we spend it together with the loved ones and we gather all together to appreciate each other.

Therefore, I am trying to share as much information as possible about Christmas around Europe, since I can’t travel much, but also because Europe is the core of Christmas. America commercialized Christmas, bu Europe created it.

Therefore with no further due, I will keep you updated on what are the Christmas markets you should see in The Netherlands, my residency country.

I don’t go often to Nijmegen, therefore I will give you my personal highlights on Christmas activities in Nijmegen.

Culinary winter walk Nijmegen

A winter outing in Nijmegen to enjoy: at the Culinary Winter Walk you will be welcomed with hot chocolate and a piece of Mariken bread. With a guide, you will wander through Nijmegen and occasionally take a seat in a restaurant or café for a beer tasting and a glass of wine. This tour is extra cozy in the December month with all its decorations and thousands of lights in the city. The tour can be booked on any desired day and time.

You can find more information here.

Christmas Day snack festival Brebl

Last year there were more than 25,000 responses to this party, and that was a little too much. LEt’s see how things will be with the pandemic around the corner. Christmas Day snack festival at Brebl! After 2 days full of family obligations, it is time to get off the floor and enjoy unlimited fries, frikandels, and croquettes (Dutchies love these!) on Christmas Day. And oh yes; do not forget your friends! Because that's what it's all about.

Drinks with wine at the wine bar of the year; Wine at Arentz

They have only been open for a few years (October 2018) and have already been voted wine bar of the year 2020. That is a very good achievement! True wine lovers will enjoy themselves here. Many different types of wine for attractive prices. The service is good, pleasant, and very competent. Every wine has a story. If you were already curious about this wine bar, now is the time to taste and try ;-). You can then decide which wine will or will not make it for the Christmas dinner or the New Year's drink.

You can find Wijn Bij Arentz here : Hertogstraat 86, Nijmegen.

Spotting Christmas decorations in the dark for a walking tour

Yes, this is a must in the center of Nijmegen! Because there are a number of hotels and cafes that do their very best to keep the city at its most prosperous during the festive season. With all the balls, lights, and atmospheric tunes it is wonderful to walk by hereafter shopping or after dinner. You certainly do not skip these places: Manna, Hotel Blue, Toon, Fresca, Het Arsenaal and the Hezelstraat.
Blue, Toon, Fresca, Arsenaal, Hezelstraat (Lange and Stikke), MANNA and back to Blue.

Ice skating Triavium

The Triavium is not located in the center of Nijmegen, but you can get there very easily by car, bus or train. Ice skating is the ultimate winter outing, isn't it? Check the website in advance to see if there are extra (or not) activities in connection with the Christmas holidays, for example. The Triavium is fun for a children's party, but also to take your date with you ;-).

Winter fair at the Smeltkroes 14 Dec

On 14 December everyone opens their doors at De Smeltkroes. Just before the Christmas holidays, they are doing again. And that is an ideal time for last-minute Christmas presents. View the workshops of a designer, furniture maker, instrument maker, or blacksmith or join one of the many workshops (also fun for kids!). Of course, this fair is not without music, drinks, and lots of fun. December 14 from 2 pm to 7 pm.

You can find the Winter Fair
Waalbandijk 16, Nijmegen.
